Starting with an interesting visit to a Javanese culture and art museum. This visit is followed by lunch at the attached Beukenhof Restaurant (serves only western dishes). Following this we go to the starting point of our 2-hour leisurely cycling trip between Kaliadem and Plaosan. We pass through lovely villages with the famous Merapi Volcano as a backdrop. We end this day with a visit to Ratu Boko where we can enjoy a magnificent sunset.
The first stop this morning is the Ullen Sentalu museum. This private museum, established by the Haryono family, is renowned for its vast collection of Javanese culture and art.
After visiting the site, enjoy lunch at the adjacent Beukenhof restaurant, housed in an exquisite colonial building. Following lunch, drive to Kaliadem, the starting point for the cycling trip.
From this stunning village and with Gunung Merapi as the backdrop, set off by bike on a mostly downhill ride. As it passes through the various villages and countryside, there are plenty of opportunities to stop for photos or chat to the locals. The guide will also show the locals engaged in various activities such as tobacco, rice and snake fruit plantations and explain the agriculture processes of growing and harvesting these native crops.
When arriving in Plaosan, be picked up again by the car and brought to Ratu Boko. This is an enormous archeological complex with several interesting items to be viewed. Due to its location on a plateau, the sunset “light show” gives this place an almost magical ambiance. (L)
