Programme Details

:

Early this evening transfer by private, air-conditioned vehicle with guide and driver to Turgo Village, located on the slopes of Mount Merapi north of Yogyakarta. (The transfer will take around 1 hour from Yogyakarta)

Arriving just after sunset, meet with the local host family: Pak Yanto and his spouse Ibu Nunik.  Their family was among those who survived the 1994 eruption of Mount Merapi that destroyed the settlement due to hot ash clouds gliding down. Join Pak Yanto for a walk around their traditional wooden home, learning about their life and the impact of the volcano.

Then sit down for a special dinner. Ibu Nunik will prepare a selection of Javanese dishes in the kitchen, using traditional techniques and recipes.

Enjoy the fresh cooked meal while chatting with the family, learning more about their lives and culture.

Following dinner, bid farewell to the hosts and continue through the night to a special viewing post to admire Mount Merapi from afar.  If the conditions are right, it is possible to see the glowing lava slide from the crater down the slopes, a unique opportunity rarely enjoyed by tourists.

Then, transfer back to the Yogyakarta hotel, arriving around 22:00.  (D)

-Our rates are net and quoted in American dollars (USD), however some services (like transportation, guide fees, entrance fees, some activities,  meals, air tickets and train tickets and sometimes accommodations) are based on local prices in Indonesian Rupiah in (IDR). In the case of a major change in the exchange rate (5% or more) between the Indonesian Rupiah and the American dollar (USD), we reserve the right to correct our quotes to align our rates and revise the value of the American dollar (USD).
- All rates are based on the current gasoline price. Should the gasoline price increase by more than 10% we would readjust transfer rates with a 30 days prior notice.
- Children aged between 2 and 12 years at the time of travel will receive a 15% discount off the Adult Price.
- All language guides other than English subject to availability during high season July-September.
- During the religious festival of Idul Fitri, which falls on 9-10 March 2027 and 26-27 February 2028, significant travel activity is expected across the country, especially within Java. Travelling will be extremely challenging due to heavy traffic. Expect significant delays and congestion on roads, trains and flights. You might find limited-service availability, as some tour guides could be returning home and certain restaurants may be closed. The busiest travel periods will be just before and immediately after the holiday. Given the anticipated severe disruptions, we strongly advise against overland travel from 12-27 March 2026 and 2-17 March 2027.
- Wear warm clothing, the village is cool.
- The flaring lava sliding is not guaranteed to happen; it depends on the volcano’s activity at that time and on the sky's clarity. Even when the volcano is during the activity, we need to wait sometimes to see the glowing lava spitting out from the crater.

Pick up and drop off timings from alternate destinations:
