In the evening, transfer by air-conditioned car with a guide and into the heart of Jakarta. Hop off at Wahid Hasyim Street to begin the tasty street food safari, sampling an array of dishes that reflect the city’s melting pot of diverse cultures and communities.
Start the evening with a taste of rendang, a beef stew cooked for hours in coconut milk native to West Sumatra. Then, continue to taste two different styles of sate originating from Madura and Padang. Walk a bit further, find Indonesia’s beloved street food dish: martabak. Watch as the vendor prepares these thin, crispy pancakes stuffed with a choice of sweet or savoury filling then savour the flavours of this signature dish. Wash it down with seasonal fruit juice terong belanda, or tamarillo juice.
Throughout the journey, engage with local residents with the guide's assistance, offering insights into daily life in Jakarta and the city's vibrant street food culture. The experience continues with a taste of soto, a turmeric chicken soup cherished as a Javanese favourite and an essential dish on any street food tour. The adventure concludes with a serving of goat fried rice, a beloved specialty originating from Jakarta's Betawi tribe.
End of street food safari, return to hotel. (-)
