Set out this morning for a brief visit to Kebon Roek Traditional Market in Mataram, where you can experience the rhythm of daily life and pick up fresh fruit and snacks before continuing on a countryside cycling journey.

Continue to the outskirts of the city, where your cycling journey begins in a small village centered around a natural spring—on hot days, locals often cool off in its clear waters. From there, ride along Lombok’s quiet back roads, passing through villages and rice paddies. Along the way, stop at a traditional cowbell workshop to see how these distinctive wooden bells are crafted and learn about their unique sound.

Next stop is a craft village where baskets are made from grass and straw. Take a break and enjoy a fresh coconut with the tropical fruits and snacks purchased at the market.

Your final cycling leads you through the lush green landscape toward Pura Lingsar, where you’ll encounter a captivating blend of Balinese Hinduism and Lombok’s mystical Islamic tradition known as Waktu Telu. With a bit of luck, you can try tossing a coin over your head into the sacred pond behind you—local belief says it may help a wish come true.

Leave the back roads and return by car to the hotel with a stop for lunch at Spice Lounge Senggigi. (L).
