Stop often for photos and to mingle with the locals. Take a peek inside a traditional house and see, up close, typical activities such as making cassava crackers or harvesting seasonal crops. There may even be a chance to learn to play the gamelan, a unique Indonesian instrument.
While exploring the village, stop to buy vegetables, herbs and other ingredients. Then join a chef in a local kitchen for a fun hands on cooking class. The guide and chef will share useful insights on Java’s typical cuisine and the role of food in the local culture. Join them to prepare a selection of dishes, using traditional techniques and family recipes. Then sit down to enjoy the freshly cooked lunch.
