Escape to the greenery of Bali along the slopes of Batukaru Mountain. Learn basic jungle survival skills while on a 90-minute trek to a jungle camp. Experience the spirituality of Bali with a water purification ritual and a private blessing at a hidden temple. Lastly admire the stunning Jatuluwih rice fields and learn about the unique Balinese irrigation system.
Arrive in Jatiluwih and meet with the ranger who will introduce the day’s trekking program. Begin with a walk through charming orchards and dense rainforest. Along the way, listen to fascinating stories and insights about the colorful flora and rich biodiversity of this wilderness landscape. After 1-1.5 hours of trekking at moderate level, arrive at Sang Janggala Jungle Camp by the riverside. Take the chance for a refreshing dip in its clear mountain water. Here at the camp, the ranger will explain some fundamental knowledge on how to survive in nature, such as: How to choose a suitable location for a campsite, how to build a shelter, how to find clean drinking water. There will also be a demonstration on how to make a fire and how to make eating utensils from bamboo.
For lunch, enjoy a flavorful jungle-style meal prepared with local ingredients such as roots, ferns, young coffee leaves, and chicken cooked in bamboo, while surrounded by the peaceful ambiance of the forest.
After lunch, continue with two revitalizing spiritual experiences. Trek for about 30 minutes to meet a local priest who will guide you through a traditional purification ritual in a jungle river. The first ceremony, known as Melukat, is an ancient Balinese cleansing ritual performed in flowing water. A sarong is required for this ceremony, and flower offerings and fragrant incense will be prepared for you. Please wear shorts or swimwear under the sarong, as you will be immersed in the fresh river water during the ritual.
Following the Melukat ritual, take part in a second ceremony at the temple of Sri Rambut Sedana. Dressed in proper Balinese temple attire, you will participate in a blessing ceremony led by the same priest. Before entering the temple, you will learn how to make a small offering basket from coconut leaves, which will be used during the ritual. Seated behind the priest, you will take part as he prays to the gods to welcome positive spirits and ask for continued well-being, prosperity, and happiness.
Afterwards, transfer a short distance for a drive and brief stop to admire the magical rice terraces of Jatiluwih, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take in the sweeping views of verdant terraces and learn about the traditional irrigation techniques used by Balinese farmers to cultivate their rice fields.
