Enjoy a holistic day out in Ubud’s countryside on this specialist-led Balinese herbal remedy tour. Walk alongside a local herbalist as you explore the island’s remarkable “living pharmacy,” learning how natural plants and ingredients are used in traditional Balinese medicine. Afterwards, savour a delicious organic meal before indulging in a relaxing Balinese spa treatment.
Start the morning with a drive into the countryside where an expert herbalist is waiting. After a short introduction, start walking through the fields in search of natural herbs growing in the wild.
This living pharmacy is the perfect place to learn about the practice of natural medicine. The leisurely 2 till 3 hour walk passes through rice paddies, forest and ravines with plenty of stops along the way to take photos and relax in the tranquil surroundings. The herbalist will point out different plants and explain how they are used in traditional Balinese healing. Discover the medicinal qualities of hibiscus, vanilla, turmeric and more as well as gaining insight into Bali's natural ecosystem. As well, learn more about rice farming and the unique irrigation techniques used by the island’s farmers to plant, irrigate and harvest this staple crop.
Around midday, stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Dine on healthy, organic dishes while enjoying views of the countryside. The ingredients used to prepare the meal are all locally-grown, many of them in the farms and fields visited on the morning’s walk.
Then continue to a tranquil spa in Ubud for a relaxing afternoon. Indulge in a soothing massage by an internationally-trained therapist, easing tired muscles and rejuvenating the body and mind. After the massage, rinse off and enjoy a cup of tea -the perfect ending to a memorable Bali day tour- before transferring back to the hotel. (L)
