Start with an introduction into prehistoric Bali at the Archeological Museum in Bedulu. The complex houses a number of relics discovered in the immediate surroundings and other regions of around Bali, with a range from Paleolithic tools originating in the stone and bronze ages to artifacts left behind by Indian and Chinese traders.

The museum is known particularly for its collection of stone-sarcophagi in different shapes. A short drive away lies the mystic meditation hermitage Goa Garba, built since 1116 AD during the reign of King Jaya Pangus. At the cliff right by the bank of Pakerisan River, a small cave and large stones can be found. One of the rocks shows the footprint of the ancient Balinese regent and unbeaten warrior Kebo Iwa, believed of having supernatural power.

Continue to Pura Penataran Sasih, a former state temple featuring a colossal bronze drum originating from Dong Son in the Red River Delta, and indicating extensive trade among Southeast Asian kingdoms thousands of years ago. Visit finally the impressive 25-meter long Yeh Pulu relief, etched into a rock face, depicting mythological Wayang or shadow puppet characters, Hindu gods, as well as people going about normal village life.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant. (L)
