Dive into the heart of Bali's agricultural traditions at a regenerative farm in Bayad Village, Payangan. Surrounded by stunning Balinese countryside, you'll gain a deep understanding of the island's rich farming heritage. Discover the fascinating history of the subak, Bali's ancient irrigation system dating back to the 9th century, and learn about the origins of Mansur Heritage Rice, one of Bali's many cherished rice varieties. You'll also explore the entire process of planting, growing, and harvesting rice – a practice that has been central to Balinese culture for centuries.
Enjoy lunch at the restaurant beautifully crafted from reclaimed ironwood, sandstone, and bamboo, and adorned with art and antiques from the owners’ personal collection.
Then proceed to Yeh Pulu, tucked away amidst the natural beauty of a small river and rice terraces near Bedulu village, you'll find Yeh Pulu, one of Bali's unexpected archaeological treasures. This remarkable 14th-century site features a 25-meter-long rock wall intricately carved with almost life-sized figures set within a richly ornate structure. The detailed stone carvings are divided into various scenes, depicting traditional daily life. As you approach Yeh Pulu, walking through the surrounding rice paddies, the undeniable connection between rice and water becomes immediately clear.
As the day draws to a close, before returning back to the hotel we'll drive to Petulu Village. Famed for its nightly avian phenomenon, a breathtaking sight of thousands of white herons returning to roost. This natural spectacle paints the sky with their elegant forms, offering visitors an unforgettable experience. Known locally as kokoan, these beautiful birds are a significant part of Bali's rich natural environment. (L)
