Step off the beach for a discovery tour of Bali’s vibrant, yet rarely visited, capital. Join the locals at the Badung market to sample exotic tropical fruits and sip coffee at a traditional café. Then visit two of Denpasar’s fascinating museums for an introduction to the island’s history and culture.
After breakfast at the hotel, set off for a half day Denpasar city tour (Bali’s capital). Head to the famous Badung market, a vibrant kaleidoscope of spices, herbs, fruits and other Indonesian delicacies. Learn about the various ingredients on sale, learning how they are used in local cuisine and watching as the vendors and shoppers haggle for the freshest items. Sample some of the fresh tropical fruits on offer, savouring the intense flavours of locally-grown produce.
Walk a short distance to a typical Chinese coffee shop. Sit alongside the locals while sampling freshly brewed coffee and enjoying a bit of people watching (1 cup of freshly brewed coffee is included or try the famous Kopi Luwak at own expense).
Continue to the Bali Museum to browse the wide selection of archaeological findings such as weapons and sculptures. Gain insight into the island’s cultural heritage as the guide explains the traditional paintings, textiles, instruments and theatrical masks that are also on display.
The final visit is to Bajra Sandi, Bali’s war museum. Housed in an impressive building, the museum exhibits showcase the different wars during Indonesia’s fight for independence. Learn about the country’s military past and the complex, often tragic, history of this island nation.
Following this insightful half day Denpasar city tour, return to the hotel for an afternoon of seaside relaxation.
