Begin the afternoon stroll in the Arab quarter, where the influence of historic Middle Eastern trading communities remains part of the neighbourhood’s local character.

Continue into an area shaped by Dutch colonial-era development, with the chance to sample a refreshing iced syrup from a local factory that has been operating since 1923.

Cross the famous Jembatan Merah into Chinatown and take in the area’s preserved cultural character. Along the way, visit Hok An Kiong Temple, built in 1820 and adorned in striking red and yellow tones. The building was notably constructed  entirely without metal nails.

As dusk falls and street lamps light up the evening, conclude the walk at one of Surabaya's oldest restored Art Deco and Dutch colonial-era landmarks. Dating to 1910, this historic venue features six-metre-high ceilings, classic wooden panelling, antique furnishings and fresh floral displays, setting the scene for an exquisite fine dinner.
