Full-day exploration of Luxor’s East and West Banks, visiting royal tombs, terraced mortuary temples and monumental complexes from the New Kingdom to later periods. Includes the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s temple, Colossi of Memnon, Karnak and Luxor Temple, with lunch on the East Bank.
Begin the day on Luxor’s West Bank with a visit to the Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs of the New Kingdom were buried in richly painted tombs. Continue to the Valley of the Queens, resting place of royal wives and children, before heading to the spectacular Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, blending seamlessly into the surrounding cliffs. A short stop follows at the Colossi of Memnon, two immense statues that once guarded a great mortuary temple. Cross the Nile to the East Bank and pause for lunch at a local restaurant offering Egyptian and international dishes.
In the afternoon, discover the sprawling Temple of Karnak, with its forest of monumental columns, obelisks and sanctuaries dedicated to the god Amun. Conclude the tour at the Temple of Luxor, where the Avenue of Sphinxes once connected it to Karnak. The site remains a vibrant mix of ancient Egyptian splendour and later Islamic heritage with the Mosque of Abu’l Haggag set within its grounds. (-/L/-)
