Step back into the heart of Old Cairo with a guided walk through Khan El-Khalili’s historic streets. From ancient city gates to traditional workshops, discover vibrant markets, timeless architecture and living traditions that continue to shape daily life.
The walk begins at Bab El-Fotouh, a fortified northern gate of Cairo’s old city. The thoroughfare towards Bab Zuweila passes mosques, monuments and markets, forming one of the most densely listed heritage streets in the world.
Khan El-Khalili Bazaar offers a glimpse of everyday Cairo, filled with spices, fabrics and household goods. Street vendors and colourful stalls create a lively setting where centuries of tradition remain visible. The route concludes along El-Khayameyya Street, home to appliqué workshops where artisans maintain techniques once used to decorate tents for festivals and ceremonies. Today the craft endures as a hallmark of Cairo’s cultural identity. (-/-/-)
