The day includes a visit to the Alexandria National Museum, home to over 1,800 artefacts covering Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Coptic, Islamic and modern periods, offering a compact overview of the city’s rich heritage.

Next, see Qaitbay Fort, a 15th-century coastal fortress built on the site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse. The sand-coloured walls, castle structures and mosque reflect its strategic role guarding the Eastern Harbour. Continue to the Aboul Abbas Mosque, rebuilt in 1943 over the tomb of an Andalusian Muslim saint. Its four domes and 73-metre minaret make it one of Alexandria’s most recognisable religious landmarks.

After lunch at a local restaurant, explore the Roman Amphitheatre, noted for its excellent acoustics, before visiting the Catacombs of Kom El Shugafa, Egypt’s largest Roman burial site. The tombs descend in tiers into the bedrock, blending Egyptian and Greco-Roman motifs. (-/L/-)
