A half-day journey into the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Explore Howard Carter’s house and a meticulously recreated tomb that preserves the original details while protecting the fragile archaeological site.
Programme Details
The tour starts at Howard Carter’s house, perched above the road from Deir al-Bahri to the Valley of the Kings. The restored building, set in a small garden on an otherwise barren slope, displays photographs, tools and artefacts from Carter’s excavation of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
Next, visit the full-scale replica of King Tutankhamun’s tomb, built by archaeological experts to protect the original. Every detail of the burial chamber is faithfully reproduced, including wall pitting, wooden railings and cracks in the sarcophagus. The adjacent storeroom offers displays on how the tomb was discovered, repaired and preserved for future generations. (-/-/-)
