A road journey from Aswan leads to the monumental twin temples of Abu Simbel. Standing as a testament to both ancient grandeur and modern engineering, these lakeside structures offer a profound look into the legacy of Ramses II.
Depart early by road to Abu Simbel, home to the monumental twin temples of Ramses II and his wife, Queen Nefertari. The Great Temple of Ramses II is famed for its four colossal seated statues of the pharaoh, each standing around 20 metres high. In a remarkable feat of modern engineering, the entire temple complex was relocated in 1968 to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser following the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
Lunch is served upon arrival at Abu Simbel. After the visit, return by road to Aswan, where the remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. (-/L/-)
