Takeo Getaway - Full Day
Today’s tour will begin at 08:00. Escape from Phnom Penh for a full day in the countryside of Takeo Province. Drive past fields and small villages on the way to Phnom Chisor. This mountain-top temple dates back to the 10th century of the Angkor-era and is remarkably well preserved. Enjoy sweeping views of the surroundings from a bird’s-eye view.
Continue to Takeo, a sleep small town typical of rural Cambodia. Amble through town, passing markets and street side stalls and meeting with curious locals. After lunch, board a boat for a cruise along the peaceful river to see the city from a different perspective.
Disembark at Angkor Borei, a small archaeological museum that provides better insight in to Takeo’s past. Nearby is Phnom Da, another great set of temple ruins that reflect the rich heritage of the region.
After this full day out it is time to return to the capital. Make one more stop on the way at Tonle Bati, a small but beautiful Angkorian-style temple. The quiet lakeside setting is popular with the city residents who come out on the weekends to relax in the bamboo huts on the water’s edge.
Reach Phnom Penh in the early evening, returning to the busy modern city after a day in the countryside. (L)
Lunch is included.
