Escape Phnom Penh for a full day in the countryside of Takeo Province. Visit Tonle Bati, a small yet beautiful Angkorian-style temple built during the reign of Jayavarman VII—the legendary king who also constructed Bayon in the great city of Angkor Thom. Continue to Takeo, a small town typical of rural Cambodia.
After lunch, board a local speedboat to Angkor Borei to visit a small archaeological museum, which offers insightful context into the region’s rich past. Then by road to Phnom Da, a prominent pre-Angkorian site dating back to the Funan era and one of the earliest religious locations in Cambodia.
Visit traditional silk weavers in Prei Kabas, then head to Phnom Chisor, a hilltop temple dating back to the 10th century of the Angkor era. Enjoy sweeping, bird’s-eye views of the surrounding countryside from the top.
