Escape from Phnom Penh for a full day in the countryside of Takeo Province. Visit Phnom Chisor, the 10th century of the Angkor-era. Enjoy sweeping views of the surroundings from a bird’s-eye view.  Continue to Takeo, a small town typical of rural Cambodia.

After lunch, head out to Angkor Borei to visit a small archaeological museum that provides better insight into Takeo’s past. Then continue to Phnom Da, the pre-Angkorian Funan era: this is one of the earliest religious sites in Cambodia. One more stop on the way at Tonle Bati, a small but beautiful Angkorian-style temple from the reign of Jayavarman VII, who built Bayon in the great city of Angkor Thom.
