Uncover the dramatic world of Lakhon Khol, Cambodia’s UNESCO-recognised dance-drama traditionally performed by men. Set in a tranquil and private house away from the crowds, this hands-on creative session invites families to explore the epic tales of the Reamker (the Cambodian Ramayana). Guided by skilled craftspeople, young artists bring mythical monkeys, noble heroes and fierce giants to life through colour and paint.
Arrive at a private house nestled in a quiet corner of Siem Reap to begin the introduction to Lakhon Khol, Cambodia’s traditional male masked dance-drama. The host will share captivating stories of the Reamker mythology, introducing the iconic characters and cultural history that bring these epic theatrical performances to life.
Guided by local craftsmen, children and parents discover the complete traditional process of mask-making from start to finish. Begin by gluing layers of papier-mâché to shape the intricate contours of a classical mask before painting and detailing it step-by-step using vibrant, child-safe paints and gold-leaf accents.
Once complete and dried, the personalised masks are carefully packed for safe travel, serving as a meaningful, handcrafted reminder of the journey through Cambodian mythology.
