:

This morning, leave Siem Reap and explore two incredible temples surrounded by the jungle. Start your exploration at Koh Ker temple.

Located 100 kilometers away from Siem Reap, Koh Ker was briefly the capital of the Khmer Empire following a dispute over the throne of Angkor. With its isolated location and grandiose structures, you will likely be impressed by both the size of the structures and the lack of tourists. Notable features include giant linga (phallic representations of the god Shiva) and the pyramidal Prasat Thom, whose design evokes ancient Mayan architecture. Climb to the top for sweeping views of the Cambodian countryside.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Continue to Beng Mealea, a temple known for its atmospheric setting. Hidden by jungle for centuries, the sprawling temple still is partly covered by branches and roots. On a wooden pathway, walk through nature and discover this harmonious blend of nature and architecture. Explore the temple's carvings through moss-covered arches and inner chambers. (L)
