Discover the best of Mae Hong Son with a fascinating introductory tour. Start with a visit to the vibrant morning market then travel into the hills for sweeping views of the town and its surroundings. Spend time exploring ancient temples, gaining insight into the town’s culture and rich heritage.
Programme Details
You will be picked up at 08:00. Upon being picked up from the hotel, be driven to Mae Hong Son Town for a visit to the major temples: Wat Chong Klang and Wat Chong Kham. Venture inside to see the incredible glass paintings depicting scenes of village life and stories of the Buddha. Also take note of the collection of wooden dolls which were pillaged from Myanmar over one-hundred years ago. Before leaving the temple compound, take a look at Nong Chong Kham, a large pond once used as an elephant bathing ground in the past.
Then continue through town to Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu. This hilltop temple offers spectacular views over Mae Hong Son and the surrounding valley. Admire the two white chedis which are built in Shan style and learn about the temple’s history.
Return to town at midday, arriving in time for lunch or a rest.
