Combine Adventure with UNESCO World Heritage Exploration via a Central Vietnam Biking Trip

Central Vietnam, for years and years has been known for its natural scenes and cultural intrigue. Look no further than the UNESCO destinations of Hue, Hoi An and My Son for proof.

Central Vietnam, for years and years has been known for its natural scenes and cultural intrigue. Look no further than the UNESCO destinations of Hue, Hoi An and My Son for proof. Recently, the area has also attracted cyclists from all over, brimming with adventurists yearning for a good cycle and to admire some beautiful sightings along the way. One of these adventurers could very well be you! Imagine pedaling along tropical scenes, rural farmland and centuries old structures in Central Vietnam.

The stage is set. On arrival at Hue, soak in the atmosphere and prepare yourself for four days of cycling, Vietnamese style.  Your first day of pedaling takes you to some of the UNESCO town’s most important cultural sites, starting with the Imperial Citadel. This is a great sprawling complex of temples, pavilions, moats, walls, gates, museums and galleries. It is quite big and peaceful. After exploring the ruins of this wonderful monument, take the boat trip on Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda. The river is not only perfume by name but also by scent, in autumn, flowers and orchids drop onto the river, giving off a delightful scent. Next, meet some of the past emperors. Cycle to Ming Mang’s mausoleum and loop back across the river to Hue via the mausoleum of Khai Dinh.

Cycle a country loop of Hue through lush rural areas on footpaths and quiet country lanes to the traditional village of Phuoc Tich. The route follows back roads passing through many untouched villages and local markets. Enjoy a traditional lunch with Uncle Ho Van Te and learn more about this rich and culturally significant village. In the afternoon loop back toward Hue along quiet country lanes.

Now it’s time to explore the vast countryside beyond the city limits of Hue. Included are hill climbs (three to be exact), stops to two traditional rural villages, a visit to Lang Co Beach where a deserved rest and swim await, and of course a ride on top of Hai Van, otherwise known as the Pass of Ocean Clouds. Appreciate the view and head on over to the heritage town of Hoi An.

After exploring the 17th century Oriental town, head over to your last UNESCO site, the ancient Champa ruins of My Son via the scenic country back roads through rice fields and away from highway traffic. Rustic villages as well as villagers waving and greeting you again are plentiful before reaching the archaeological site.

A total of 180-230 kilometers is covered in this Central Vietnam adventure tour, depending on what you want to see and which routes you want to take. More adventure awaits, with trek and cycling expeditions through hill tribes, beautiful nature and exotic markets with our Vietnam adventure tours.
