Aboard Bassac and at the Victoria Can Tho - 3 Days / 2 Nights
This morning, leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind as the scenery is gradually replaced with rice paddies and rural villages on your drive to Cai Be. As you board ‘The Bassac’ and depart towards Cho Lach on the Tien Giang River, enjoy a delectable lunch on the boat’s upper deck. Along the way, visit a local village, fruit orchard, and rice field where you can learn more about the way of life here in the Delta. As the sun sets, sit back, watch the scenery, and enjoy a cocktail before dinner.
Overnight aboard the Bassac.
An early breakfast will be served while the boat cruises on the way to Can Tho. Here, you will disembark and travel by a small local boat to explore the Cai Rang floating market. The waterway becomes a maze of boats packed with different produce depending on the season - mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even floating coffee sellers and pho vendors. A short drive will then transfer you to the Victoria Can Tho Hotel, your riverside accommodation for an overnight stay.
After taking some time to refresh and relax in the heat of the day, this afternoon head out to discover another side of Can Tho. Depart from the hotel at approximately 2pm on a traditional boat with the local guide and bicycles on-board. Cross the Hau River then continue to cruise along one of the many canals to visit a local brick factory. Next start cycling through the lush countryside on village paths, rough trails and dikes along the rice fields. You will see the rustic charm and simplicity of the farmers’ daily lives and experience first-hand the friendliness of the locals in an area away from the city and where tourists rarely visit. Afterwards return to the boat and relax as the boat journeys back to the Victoria, arriving back at around 5:30-6pm. Note that the cycling is on a join-in basis and is leisurely on flat terrain and is graded easy. Distance is approximately 8 kilometres, although it can usually be adjusted to longer duration on request.
The rest of the afternoon and evening is at your leisure to explore or take advantage of the hotel’s pool or recommended spa. Overnight at Victoria Can Tho.
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, the morning is yours to relax at the resort or explore the city of Can Tho at your own pace. The name of the city comes from cam thi giang - river of poems, and it’s the largest city in the Mekong Delta, and said to be the fourth largest city in Vietnam.
Depart Can Tho in the early afternoon for the 4-hour drive back to Ho Chi Minh City
