Pha Taem’s Land of the Lost - Full Day
You will be picked up at 08:00. Travel away from Ubon Ratchathani after breakfast, driving towards the eastern most region of Thailand.
Arriving at the park, begin the Pha Taem Historical Park tour with a short look around the insightful visitors’ centre. Then walk toward the cliffs for which the park is known. Soak up fantastic views from the edge of a 160-metre high cliff, gazing upon the Mekong River and Laos in the distance.
Then walk onwards to the main attractions: Pha Taem’s ancient cliff paintings. Walk 1.5 kilometres along the cliff, gazing upon five unique sets of ancient artwork. There is no exact way of knowing the age of these paintings but most historians date them to 3000 to 5000 years old. Stare in wonder at the well-preserved drawings depicting life in an era long since passed. See images of elephants, people and fish painted with palm fronds on the cliff’s edges. Form theories as to how these paintings got here and what stories or lessons they are intended to represent.
Then continue toward the town of Khong Jiam. Situated on the border of Laos, this scenic town is the easternmost point in Thailand. Board a longtail boat for a scenic cruise along the Mekong and Mun Rivers, appreciating the natural beauty of rural Southeast Asia.
After this half day Pha Taem Historical Park tour, return to Ubon Ratchathani in the early evening. (L)
