Yangon for Foodies - Half Day
Today your tour will start at 08:00.
Bring an appetite and dive right into the city’s culinary scene on this Yangon food tour. Join a local guide and travel to one of downtown’s main morning markets. Here vendors gather to sell everything from fresh vegetables and fruits to fish and meats as well as a variety of dipping sauces and pastes. Explore the stalls and learn how the ingredients are incorporated into Burmese cooking.
Continue the Yangon food tour past many vendors selling breakfast treats popular with the locals, such as pancakes, steamed sticky rice with beans and fried delights such as donuts and samosa. Stop and taste some of the treats on the way. Then take a short drive to Seik Kan Thar Street, another morning market area with many stalls selling palata (thick pancakes), flowers and fruits. Try a bite of palata or an exotic local fruit.
Having covered the morning market scene, pull up a chair at Padauk Yeik. Meaning ‘in the shade of the gum tree’, this street stall is a popular place to have laphet thoke, Burmese tea leaf salad. Enjoy a plate of the fermented tea leaves, served with a selection of fried nuts and beans. Hear how this beloved local dish is made and learn about its different variations.
Before returning to the hotel, the Yangon food tour wraps up with a quintessential Myanmar experience: A visit to the tea shop. Walk to a popular local shop and sip a cup of sweet Burmese tea (called laPhet Yay) while watching scenes of local life go by.
