Spend a day exploring the quiet, charming town of Syriam. Travel to the outskirts of Yangon and visit the interesting pagodas, including one located on a river island, and wander amid the leafy tree-lined streets.
This tour will start at 08:00.
Along with the private local guide and car, depart from the hotel in the morning on a one-hour drive to Syriam. Also referred to as Thanlyin, Syriam has a fascinating past which will be thoroughly explored on this full-day Syriam tour.
After rising to prominence as a vital port city during the 15th century, Syriam briefly fell under Portuguese rule in the 17th century. It then served as the base for the French East India company before joining the British Empire. These days Syriam is home to three universities and, despite its proximity to Yangon, remains a quiet, sleepy town full of varied colonial architecture.
Upon arrival, explore this pleasant town while driving around the tree-lined streets to see the main sites and get a glimpse of local life. Visit the hilltop pagoda at Kyaik Khauk, which is four kilometres outside of the town centre and offers fabulous views of Shwedagon Pagoda in the distance. Also visit Ye Le Paya (also called Kyauktan), which is built on a small island. Take a local boat across the water to this unique temple.
A lunch stop is made in Syriam (client account).
After an insightful tour of Syriam, head back to Yangon, arriving mid-afternoon.
