ITINERARY

Nyaung Shwe Challenge - Full Day

Meals MEALS [ L ]

Today your tour will start at 07:00.

The day starts with a relatively easy ride on the eastern shores of Inle Lake. Venture through local neighbourhoods in Nyaung Shwe where residents are going about their daily activities. Then move away from town and into the countryside, pedalling past fields of sugarcane and other crops. Small villages dot the roadside and from time to time there are glimpses of Inle Lake shimmering in the distance.

Upon reaching Nampan, hop off the bikes and visit the morning market (if held that day). Then load the bikes onto a boat and head across the lake. Relax and enjoy the passing scenery on the way.

Upon reaching the western shores, disembark in the village of Indein. (Note: Due to low water levels, Indein is often inaccessible by boat in April and May (The area can still be reached by road). After refuelling with lunch, take a short ride to the ancient ruins of Indein. Continue on foot for a closer exploration of the jungle-clad monuments and seek out hidden Buddha images.

Return to the bikes and begin the ride along the lake’s western shores to Nyaung Shwe. The road has one or two gentle hills but is mostly flat and there are plenty of opportunities to stop for photos. Depending on the time of year, the fields may be a vibrant shade of green from rice stalks swaying in the breeze or filled with farmers and buffalos preparing the land for planting.

Near to Nyaung Shwe, make a stop in Khaung Daing village. Walk through this typical lakeside village and see the local way of life. Sample delicious snacks such as tofu and soy bean crackers that are made from products grown in the village.

Then resume the bike ride back to Nyaung Shwe, arriving in the mid-afternoon. (L)
