Vientiane City Tour - Half Day
This tour starts at 08:30 or 13:30. Discover the charm of the Laos capital with this guided, half day tour of Vientiane. Vientiane is one of the quietest capital cities in the world, far away from the hustle and bustle of other Asian capitals.
Start with a visit to two of the oldest Buddhist temples in town. Wander through the breezy corridors of Wat Sisaket where thousands of miniature Buddha statues are on display. Then continue to neighbouring Wat Phra Keo to see an impressive collection of Lao and Khmer religious art. Get a glimpse of Laos’ colonial past at the Presidential Palace. Although it is not open to the public, the charming building- which once served as the French governor’s palace- reflects the recent history of Laos.
Continue exploring the history of Laos with a visit to COPE. This association works with landmine victims, a tragic legacy of the American-Vietnam war era. Visit the in-depth displays to learn about the lasting impact of unexploded ordinances (UXO) and the efforts underway to rid the country of them. Then head to the centre of the city to see Patuxay monument, a replica of the Arc de Triomphe. Although it is not as attractive as its French counterpart, it does offer fabulous views from the top.
Wrap up the half day tour of Vientiane with a visit to That Luang, a towering golden stupa built in the 16th century. It is Vientiane’s holiest site and often busy with local pilgrims. Having discovered Vientiane’s past and present, the tour concludes in the city centre.
