Luang Prabang Immersion - Full Day
Forget what the guidebooks say. To truly understand Laos, it is not about seeing the temples or rivers- it is about connecting with the people. Today’s excursions will unveil the spiritual and cultural beauty of the country.
Start the Lao culture tour with a hands-on cooking class. Food plays an important part in Lao culture: it is part of the social fabric with meal time being a chance to share with friends and family. Under the guidance of Lao chefs, chop, pound and fry locally-grown ingredients. Use traditional family recipes to create a meal of delicious dishes. Then sit down to a fabulous meal, dining in the typical way of the Lao people.
Having satiated the stomach, it is time to rejuvenate the body. Reflexology and working with pressure points are popular health cures in Laos with many residents having daily massages to keep their bodies healthy. Experience a one-hour treatment with an expert masseur while gentle instrumental Lao music plays in the background.
The afternoon is dedicated to the spiritual side of Lao culture. Partake in a private baci ceremony. This long-standing tradition is rooted in both Buddhist and Animist (spirit worship) beliefs. Help prepare special flower trays with the assistance of locals. Then the ritualistic chanting begins-Buddhist mantras are repeated in harmony as participants touch the special offerings. The ceremony comes to a close with an unusual ritual. Cotton threads are tied around everyone’s wrists while blessings of good luck, health and prosperity are bestowed. The solemn, heartfelt wishes lift the spirit and calm the mind.
Having connected spiritually and physically to the Laos culture, the day comes to a close with a transfer to the hotel. (L)
