Japanese Incense Ceremony - Half Day
Like the tea ceremony, Kodo, the ‘way of fragrance’ is considered a refined art in Japan and is to be practiced following some rules and a precise codification. It is said to take about 30 years to completely master the art of Kodo.
Today’s experience takes place at the home of Eriyo Watanabe, an accomplished incense expert, who has lived years abroad cultivating her knowledge. Her intimate workspace contains hundreds of types of incense from all over the world.
Let Eriyo-san explain the different steps of the incense ceremony, its codification and the significance of the different techniques.
“Listen” to the fragrances, a process of inhaling and focussing the mind on the different themes carried by the incense. Each layer of incense speaks to different parts of the conscience, creating an unimaginable journey.
Receive an incense gift at the end of the ceremony from Eriyo-san, or choose the optional extended workshop experience to create unique fragrances and aromas under the tutelage of the master.
- We strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance (covering emergency medical evacuation).
