Beijing Modern Art Scene - Full Day
This tour will begin at 10:00. Follow Beijing’s modern arts trail on a guided tour. Start with a visit to the Beijing 798 art district, located in the emerging Dashanzi neighbourhood. 798 was established in the 1990s by local artists who renovated abandoned factories and converted them into cafes, galleries and workshops. Spend time wandering through the eclectic mix of shops, stopping to browse for pottery, homewares and art. Alternatively, take a break at one of the many cafes or bars and sit back and watch the world pass by. One of the highlights of the Beijing 798 art district is Caochangdi gallery. Caochangdi has risen in popularity for artists involved in the ‘underground’ scene. See the unusual, progressive works on display here and discuss the evolution of the Chinese arts movement.
Continue on to Red Gate Gallery, the first modern art gallery to open in Beijing in 1991. The gallery remains highly influential in the Chinese art world. Explore the works of art on display and admire the unique atmosphere of 798 art district within which the gallery is located.
After the full day exploration of Beijing’s best modern art galleries, return to the hotel.
