Not too far from Bangkok, the province is home to the famous (or some may call infamous) Death Railway, otherwise known at the Bridge over the River Kwai. There\u2019s much more here than this bridge. The province is characterized by rolling hills, green plains and rivers. A nice blend of war history and nature awaits you at Kanchanaburi.<\/p>\n<p>On your way there, make a stop at Samut Songram, about 80 kilometers from the capital. It is a very small province, but a lively one characterized by a unique country market and a maze of canals that makes up Tha Kha, one of the country&#8217;s famous floating markets.<\/p>\n<p>Upon reaching Kanchanaburi on this tour deal, immediately gain insight on the province\u2019s war past with a visit to the JEATH War Museum. Ever wonder about the acronyms JEATH stand for? It stands for the main nationalities involved in the construction of the railway: Japan, England, Australia, America, Thailand and Holland. We\u2019ll also throw in a train ride along the railway itself before ending the day with a comfy dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Get into the heart of the Death Railway as you explore the Hellfire Pass Museum. True to its name, the Hellfire Pass was hell for many, noted for its harsh conditions and a huge loss of life. Trek through the canyon and its four kilometer Memorial Walking Trail as you try to picture the harsh reality of the place just 70 or so years ago.<\/p>\n<p>If all this war history is dampening your day, then we got the antidote to cheer you up. There\u2019s nothing like a ride on the back of an elephant to make people happy. After all, these kind and gentle beasts are cute. While on its back, you\u2019ll also get to explore that Kanchanaburi scenery that we talked about earlier. After that, head to one of the rivers for a gentle bamboo raft ride. Just relax and enjoy the scenery.<\/p>\n<p>Vary your trip with a visit to Wat Prasat Muang Singh, one of many impressive Angkor temples that call its home outside of Cambodia. Walk along its historic ruins before heading leaving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exotravel.com\/travel\/thailand\/tours\/kanchanaburi-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kanchanaburi<\/a> and back to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exotravel.com\/travel\/thailand\/tours\/unseen-bangkok-city-break-thailand-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bangkok<\/a>.
