Basically, vaccinated travellers can now enter and explore Laos completely as normal before the pandemic, while even unvaccinated travellers need only to show proof of a rapid ATK test before departure to the country. Furthermore, with the launching of the\u00a0Kunming-Vientiane Railway<\/a>\u00a0in December 2021, it is now easier, more time-efficient and cheaper than ever to get from one amazing place to another in Laos.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Where it differs would be in the addition of a mixed dish known as koy<\/em> or laap, <\/em>which is something also commonly found in Thai cuisine. If there’s one positive relic of Laos’ colonial past that is readily apparent in Lao society, it’s the robust coffee culture. Similar to Vietnam in this manner, a great cup of joe can be found on nearly every street corner in towns throughout Laos, making mornings in lovely Laos that much more lovely. If the abundance of coffee isn’t enough to get you out of bed in the morning, the quality of it will, as Laos also boasts some of the best coffee in the world. The Bolaven Plateau in southern Laos rests at 1,000 metres above sea level. With its cool, damp climate ideal for coffee growing, it is one of the major exports and can be readily found in cafes throughout the country.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Let’s be honest: for many travellers, Laos will always be a bit of a mystery compared to the likes of tourism icons like Bali and Thailand. Simply visiting Laos at all allows one to uncover the hidden mysteries and charms of Asia that not many tourists see. But there are legitimate mysteries in the country waiting to be explored, too. The Plain of Jars is a megalithic archeological landscape consisting of thousands of giant stone jars scattered around a network of valleys and hills in the Xiangkhoang Plateau that even to this day has defied full explanation by researchers. Thought to have been constructed and put into place as early as 1240-660 BC, it is one of the great mysteries of Asia and should be high on anyone’s to-do list when visiting the country.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

So many, in fact, that in the 1950’s a simple classification system was created to better understand them. Lao ethnic minorities are divided into Lao Loum (Lowland lao), Lao Theung (Lao of the Mountain Slope) and Lao Soung (Highland Lao). Some of the more prominent ethnic groups include the Hmong, Tai, and Khmu.
