What is it anyway? What Phou is an ancient Khmer temple not too far away from Phu Kao Mountain. The site itself is believed to have originated from the 5<sup>th<\/sup> century and the remaining structures that you will see are from the 11th, 12<sup>th<\/sup> and 13<sup>th<\/sup> centuries. As with many other Khmer temples, Wat Phou was originally a Hindu temple that later changed to a Buddhist site of worship.<\/p>\n<p>After a peaceful night on aboard followed by a hearty breakfast, head over to Sipandon. Yes, these are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exotravel.com\/travel\/laos\/tours\/4000-islands\/\" target=\"_blank\">4000 islands<\/a>. The concept of chill-out takes on a whole new meaning here. Most of the islands are small enough for you to get around by foot, but a bicycle might be necessary to reach some of the further ones. Bikes can be rented at just about anywhere, so no worries there.
