You cannot help but notice the fading but still grand colonial buildings left by the British during the colonial era. Temples, stupas and pagodas also dominate the city, providing an interesting scene where traditional Burmese structures and European architecture sit side by side in harmony.<\/p>\n<p>The first visit on this virtual Burmese history lesson is at the National Museum. It occupies a five storey building and chronicles everything about Myanmar from pre-historic times right to the present day. Next see one of Myanmar\u2019s biggest reclining Buddha statues at Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda. The statue is about 70 meters long, or about 40 men stacked on top of each other in length.<\/p>\n<p>The middle of a busy city intersection may be a peculiar place to find an important religious relic. Well, that is exactly where Sule Pagoda stands. Legend dates the structure to be over 2000 years old. And what\u2019s inside? A piece of Buddha\u2019s hair!<\/p>\n<p>No tour of Yangon would be complete without a visit to its most important site, Shwedagon Pagoda. You may have recognized this iconic relic from postcards or from guidebooks, now see it for real. This is Myanmar\u2019s holiest site, but it sometimes does not seem like it once you are there. There is a secular feel to the place, with adult Burmese hanging around in the pagoda\u2019s premise, children running up and down the area and monks sitting around and chatting with each other.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also more to Yangon than just religious relics and history. The city is home to many parks, one of which is Mahabandoola Park, home to beautiful rose gardens. The garden also offers a great view of the City Hall, as well as the nearby colonial buildings. The Bogyoke Aung San Market (let\u2019s just call it Scott Market for ease\u2019s sake) is the place to go for some cool authentic Burmese handicrafts. You can also look like a local and purchase authentic clothes and fabrics.<\/p>\n<p>Travel is all about fun, discovery and experiencing a wealth of unforgettable and unique experiences.
