An Indonesian Journey of Javanese and Sundanese Discovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you haven\u2019t noticed, Indonesia is a huge archipelago made up of thousands and thousands of islands.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a geography quiz for you.\u00a0 What island is Jakarta (Indonesia\u2019s capital) in?\u00a0 If you answered Java, then give yourself a pat on the back.\u00a0 That is one out of a reported 17,508 islands.\u00a0 The capital is also where you will begin your journey on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exotravel.com\/travel\/indonesia\/tours\/the-sunda-express\/\">Sunda Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Just a couple geography pointers before we detail this journey.\u00a0 The Sunda Islands make up the lower section of the Malay Archipelago.\u00a0 The Sunda Islands themselves are then divided into two distinct sections, The Greater Sundas and the Lesser Sundas.\u00a0 The island of Java constitutes a part of the Greater Sunda Islands and that\u2019s where we the action will take place on the Sunda Express tour.<\/p>\n<p>Your first stop is of course at Jakarta.\u00a0 As with any big Southeast Asian capital, this is the perfect opportunity for you to do some shopping and site seeing.\u00a0 Some of the sites you will be seeing include the Presidential Palace and Istiqlal Mosque as well as Kota, Jakarta\u2019s old colonial town.\u00a0 It was once dubbed &#8220;The Jewel of Asia&#8221;
