Want to witness a beautiful yet bizarre piece of creation that will surely vary your temple touring experience at Vientiane?\u00a0 Welcome to Buddha Park!\u00a0 This strange, yet intriguing place contains numerous Buddhist and Hindu statues, some conventional, others are just flat out weird, for a lack of a better word.\u00a0 You will defiantly be intrigued and bedazzled!<\/p>\n

So, what is Buddha Park?\u00a0 Buddha Park is an outdoor sculpture park and garden containing over 200 cement statues built representing the Buddha, deities and animals (both real and imaginary) and Hindu gods and mythical beings.\u00a0 The statues have been sculptured to look as if it were centuries old, which add to the place\u2019s overall peculiar ambiance.\u00a0 The park has got a \u2018Alice in Wonderland\u2019 feel to it, except that this is real and is stylized to represent Southeast Asian mystical lore!\u00a0 The park is over 50 years old and is built by Bunleua Sulilat, who also constructed a similar themed sculpture park near Nong Khai in Thailand.<\/p>\n

Where is Buddha Park?\u00a0 It is not too far from Vientiane, located about 20 kilometers away from the capital and about 5 kilometers east of the Friendship Bridge.\u00a0 If you are looking to spend a day away from Vientiane or are yearning for some strangeness as you enter Laos from Thailand or vice versa, Buddha Park will not disappoint.<\/p>\n

What should you do when you get to Buddha Park?\u00a0 Take pictures of course!\u00a0 Or shoot videos.\u00a0 The area offers great photo and video opportunities.\u00a0 You can even climb on these structures and pose with them!\u00a0 There is a large reclining Buddha statue in the park that is not only impressive, but is also approachable and climbable for your picture-taking needs.\u00a0 This is certainly the park\u2019s signature image.<\/p>\n

You can also get a view of the entire park.\u00a0 How do you get up there?\u00a0 First, look for a giant pumpkin statue with a dead tree gushing out from the top.\u00a0 Then search for the entrance.\u00a0 It is not hard to find, just notice a demon with a large wide open mouth.\u00a0 Enter it (do not worry, it is just a statue).\u00a0 If you thought the outer structure was strange, then take a look at what\u2019s inside this pumpkin!\u00a0 Yes, even more weird images.\u00a0 Anyways, inside this pumpkin is a set of stairs that lead to the top.\u00a0 Once you are up there, just grab your camera, point it at your desired direction and press the shutter-release button.\u00a0 A nice view of the park it certainly is; one of the weirdest statues you\u2019ll ever come across, it just might be.<\/p>\n
