Get ready for an unusual adventure. Explore Nay Pyi Taw, quite possibly the world’s most bizarre capital city. Discover grandiose government buildings, expansive roads and modern museums in the middle of Myanmar’s rural heartland. Although not yet on the tourist trail, a visit to the capital is an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary

📍 Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw (361 km): 5h

The guide and driver will be waiting at the Nay Pyi Taw airport for transfer to the city.

Nay Pyi Taw, little more than a vast shrubland just a decade ago, has become Myanmar’s seat of power and one of the fastest growing cities in the world.  The military consulted astrologists to determine the most auspicious place to consolidate its power.   More than 25 construction companies were hired to build the city in a few short years.

Upon arrival, stop for a quick lunch (client’s own account).  Before transferring to the hotel, visit the Gem Museum, housing precious jewels such as rubies, sapphires, jade and the largest pearl in Myanmar. (Museum is closed on Monday and public holidays.)

In the evening, visit the night market at Myoma for a look at the unique local culture of the area.

Afterwards, visit Uppatasanti Pagoda, a replica of the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda. The 99-metre-tall golden pagoda is visible from all major roads leading into the city.

Overnight in Nay Pyi Taw.

Inclusions:

After breakfast in the morning, set off for a full day of sightseeing at 08:00.

The first visit will be Parliament House (Pyi Thu Hlut Taw), the building for the National Pyi Htaung Su Hlut Taw, which is composed of 31 buildings that are a mix of modern and ancient Burmese architectural styles. If the timing is right, see the rush of politicians attending meetings outside the compound, for a unique and quirky look at the inner-workings of government in Myanmar.

After lunch (client’s own account), visit the National Landmarks Garden, a collection of miniature replicas from Myanmar.  The garden showcases scaled-down versions of the country’s famous attractions, such as the Irrawaddy River, Shwedagon Pagoda, Golden Rock Pagoda, Mount Khakaborazi, Ngapali beach, Myeik Archipelago and Inle Lake.

After an insightful tour of Myanmar’s bizarre capital, transfer to the airport for a flight onward.
