Today your tour will start at 09:00.

Start the day the local way with a visit to the morning market. Every day the residents of Pindaya and the surrounding hills gather here to buy and sell fresh produce, meats, spices and dry goods. Browse the stalls and learn about the variety of ingredients on offer.

Then take a short drive out of town and walk onwards to a nearby village. On the way, see the activities of the village’s residents- drying cheroot leaves, weaving cotton, or making brooms. The hills around Pindaya are filled with similar villages and the short walk gives a glimpse of what life is like in the Shan Hills.

Arrive at a local farm which grows herbs and other ingredients in the fertile Shan soil. Join the host in preparing lunch. Use recipes handed down from generation to generation, reflecting the various ethnic groups in the region including Danu, Shan and Pa-Oh. Learn about the ingredients being used and traditional Myanmar cooking techniques while assisting in chopping, pounding and frying up the day’s lunch.

The culinary adventure is capped off with a tasty meal of freshly prepared dishes. Then it is time to say farewell to the host and return to town.(L)
