Join a local guide for a fun, interactive night out in Luang Prabang.
The excursion begins in the late afternoon with a game of petanque. This sport was introduced by the French in the 1800s and remains a favourite pastime of the Lao people. Enjoy snacks and drinks between games, interacting with the locals who gather nightly to play.
Then climb 328 stairs to the top of Mount Phousi. The effort is worth it for the fabulous views of the city and the surrounding countryside. Watch the sun cast its last rays over Luang Prabang before descending to the night market. Sprawling along the streets of downtown, this colourful night market offers everything from hill tribe textiles to local street snacks. Rub shoulders with the locals while perusing the stalls.
Having worked up an appetite on the petanque court and while exploring the market, it is time for dinner. Dinner time is a social affair for the Lao people and a sindat (barbeque) is considered the best meal to share with friends. Head to a popular riverside shop where a charcoal burner will be placed on the table along with baskets of meats and vegetables. Enjoy a cold drink while barbequing and chit-chatting with friends.
Having experienced a lively night out in Luang Prabang, it is time to return to the hotel for the evening. (D)
