Embark on a half day tour of Yogyakarta to discover the cultural highlights and hidden gems of Java’s capital.
Being with a visit to the Sonobudoyo Museum (Note: Museum is closed on Mondays). Founded in 1935 and designed by Dutch architect Kersten, this museum offers visitors a chance to see traditional wooden puppets, masks, textiles and an extensive variety of keris, or indigenous daggers.
The next stop on this cultural discovery tour of Yogyakarta is the Sultan’s Palace. Also known as Kraton, this living museum provides greater insight into Java’s remarkable heritage. Explore the building, which is still used as the residence of the Sultan, and learn how its architectural style reflects the traditions of Javanese cosmology. Then step inside to see the incredible collection of cultural relics such as puppets and other handicrafts.
Continue on foot to Taman Sari, a royal complex dating back more than 200 years. Learn about the Sultan who built this leafy compound and examine its many features, including the pools used by the Sultan’s concubines.
The final visit of the day is at Beringharjo Traditional Market, Yogyakarta’s biggest and noisiest market. Dating back to the 18th century, locals continue to gather here daily, buying and selling daily wares in a lively atmosphere. Enjoy this slice of local life while the guide leads the way through the endless stalls of food, batiks, sarongs, antiques and other items.

Overland travel is not advised during the two weeks from 16-May-20 to 31-May-20. Service availability during that time may be limited, tour guides may be travelling home, and restaurants may be closed.
