Heading west from Bangkok it doesn’t take long before some of Thailand’s most underrated scenery makes itself apparent. Just a couple of hours drive from the capital is Kanchanaburi, the riverine gateway to the mountains, valleys and lakes that characterize the regions that border Myanmar in this part of the kingdom.

From there, the journey continues west towards Myanmar to Sangkhlaburi district, home of the Lake House – a sumptuous floating home on one of the many lakes that stud the area. From these idyllic digs, guests can strike out and explore what is one of Thailand’s most unsung areas.
