New Experience: Hanoi Night Moves (Evening)

One of the quintessential modes of transport in Vietnam, the Vespa is a fitting portal to a night of exploration in the country’s charismatic capital. What’s more, with experienced local drivers to guide the scooters through the narrow hidden alleys of the city, there’s potential to soak up far more than on an independent walking tour.

The journey kicks off by taking in some of the city’s most iconic sights. First up is the graceful French quarter and the Opera House, then comes the famous “dyke” road with its world-record breaking ceramic mural. No visit to Hanoi is complete without a pilgrimage to Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum. The final resting place of the Vietnamese hero is closed at night, but the ride around his tomb is strangely evocative.

    No natural draw encapsulates the otherworldly beauty of Vietnam quite like Halong Bay. Jutting out almost perpendicularly from the Gulf of Tonkin, 1600 or so limestone karsts stud the emerald waters of the bay.     Often bypassed by travellers rushing either to the mountains of the north or the beaches of the south, the central and northeastern reached of Thailand have plenty of attributes to woo visitors.  Central Thailand is the country's cultural heartland. Fed by the Chao Phraya River, the fertile plain north of Bangkok births much of the nation's rice crop while towns such as Ayutthaya and Sukhothai were formerly capitals of once-mighty Thai kingdoms.     At EXO, we have always believed in travel as a force for good. This recently came to life through a meaningful project on Con Ho, a small island in the Mekong Delta.Home to only fifteen families, life on Con Ho is refreshingly simple: the residents get around on foot or by bicycle, the usual buzz of motorbikes is noticeably absent. There is no electricity, so the people rely on solar power and battery back-up. Despite the scarce resources, the people are incredibly welcoming. EXO has worked with the community to develop immersive visits, giving our guests a rare opportunity to experience rural Vietnamese life while also providing a much-needed additional income stream to the community.However this simple life comes with challenges. The island’s main road, which connects the village to the port, becomes impassable in the rainy season due to thick mud.  This hampers daily life, as the road is used by children to go to school, adults to go to the market and to access services such as medical care.
