Arguably Vietnam’s most evocative destination, the ancient port of Hoi An rarely fails to seduce visitors. Yet, while the pagodas, merchant houses, and riverside restaurants of the town itself are undoubtedly entrancing, just as special is the lush surrounding countryside.
A patchwork of emerald rice paddies criss-crossed by waterways, Hoi An’s hinterland is ripe for exploration. One of the best ways to do so is by way of another of Vietnam’s icons – a vintage Vespa scooter.
After saddling up after breakfast in Hoi An, proceed by bike and ferry to Cam Kim Island to snack on local delicacies and cruise leisurely through sleepy villages. The journey continues in the same relaxed vein through the stunning countryside, with pit stops for Vietnamese coffee and opportunities to observe methods of mat weaving and farming. After a laid-back morning, the tour ends at palm fringed Cam Thanh beach for a seafood feast for lunch.
