Free no more, Mandalay Hill will from now on require a 1,000 kyat entrance fee for all foreign visitors. The fee will be designated to support the ongoing maintenance of this popular sight. No supplemental charges will apply for any bookings that have already been confirmed with EXO Travel.

UNWTO and UNESCO held the first World Conference on Tourism and Culture, on 04 – 06 Feb 2015 at Siem Reap, Cambodia

The First World Conference on Tourism and Culture brought together, for the first time, Ministers of Tourism and Ministers of Culture from around the world.  Experts and stakeholders from both sectors explored new models of partnership between tourism and cultured.

 

Bringing together both Ministers of Tourism and Ministers of Culture, along with experts and stakeholders from around the world and within both sectors, the conference was a huge success in opening up new discussions on cultural tourism.

 

Cultural tourism has the possibility of contributing to inclusive economic growth, social development and cultural preservation. The first UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture provided an unprecedented global platform for policymakers, experts and practitioners in tourism and culture to meet and identify the key challenges and opportunities for stronger cooperation between these highly interlinked areas.

 

Over two days, attendees explored the different roles and mandates on five key topics – governance and partnership models, cultural preservation, living cultures and creative industries, cultural routes and urban regeneration through cultural tourism.

Vietnam’s Hoi An Continues to Impress

The local authorities from the ancient town of Hoi An have recently announced that the monthly ‘Full Moon Festival’ celebrated within the town will now be a fortnightly event in order to meet the high demand from the tourists and locals. Furthermore, the event will be renamed to ‘Hoi An Ancient Town’s Night’.

 

The Hoi An Full Moon Festival was first introduced in 1998 and has since received overwhelmingly positive reviews and become a signature activity of Hoi An town. During the festival, the town turns off the street lights in favor of traditional silk lanterns. Various activities take place including a night market, bai choi singing (a kind of folklore art performance), flower garland and lantern releasing on the Hoai River and other street musical performances, the festival aims to recall the traditional life of Hoi An in the early 20th century. Hoi An Ancient Town’s Night is the perfect way for visitors to experience the culture and nightlife of this charming UNESCO World Heritage town. What’s more, Rough Guides included the Hoi An Full Moon Festival in their list of the world’s top ‘20 unforgettable things to do at night on your travels’ in 2014.
