Toraja Discovery and South Sulawesi Beach (9 Days / 8 Nights)

The regency of Tana Toraja in Sulawesi is one of Indonesia’s most compelling anthropological treasure troves. The area is the ancestral home of the Toraja, an ethnic group known for its elaborate funeral rites and burial sites carved into rocky cliffs. On this journey, guests will immerse in Torajan culture – visiting local markets and dining in unique Tongkonan (Torajan traditional homes) — before delving into Sulawesi’s beach culture.  While the unique culture and traditions of the Toraja people represent the most compelling reasons for a trip to Tana Toraja, the mountain scenery of the area is every bit as fascinating and guests have the option of trekking on slopes of Mount Sesean where Toraja villages offer beautiful views of rice fields dotted with large black rocks, the remains of ancient volcanic eruptions. Heading south to the ocean, guests will have opportunities for snorkelling and cultural encounters at the gorgeous coastal areas of Bira Beach and Liukan Island.
