Luang Prabang - Ban Mok Chong

More ethnically diverse than perhaps any other part of Southeast Asia, northern Laos is heaven for those who want to broaden their cultural horizons. One of the best ways to engineer encounters with the kaleidoscope of cultures that live as they have for centuries in the mountains is through a trekking expedition. A highlight of the trek, meanwhile, includes the opportunity to experience a Baci Ceremony first-hand.

Day 1 - Luang Prabang - Arrival (D)

Welcome to Luang Prabang, the spiritual capital of Laos! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel.

The afternoon will be spent discovering the architectural and historical wonders of this UNESCO-protected town, on foot. We will visit the Xieng Thong Palace, the former Royal Palace and climb up Phousi Mountain just in time for panoramic views of the town and a glorious sunset.

When walking in the peninsula, along the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, you can get a sense of Luang Prabang’s true ambiance and the inhabitants’ lifestyle.

It’s then time to head back to your hotel to freshen up in readiness for your first night out in Luang Prabang

Early evening, your guide will escort you to the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre for some appetizers and cocktails. This unique little museum is dedicated to exploring the rich diversity of Laos’ ethnic minorities. Traditional costumes, tools, and artifacts are on display alongside in-depth descriptions and written histories. It is a great opportunity to gain insight in to the Lao people (note: closed on Mondays).

Tonight, we have dinner at Tamarind, the most famous Lao restaurant in town serving many local delicacies.

After dinner burn some calories by taking a stroll through the night market for an insight on local souvenirs and handicrafts.
